Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer - UK BPO

As a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide high‑performance, secure, and fault‑tolerant business systems infrastructure to Sigma’s user base. You will work with IT team colleagues and other Sigma staff on the development and refinement of the IT strategy. You will operate as a lead within the IT team, and you will guide the organization’s infrastructure toward the highest possible operational standards. You will be reporting directly to the Senior IT Infrastructure Manager.

💻🤓 You will work with senior IT leadership and the wider IT team to develop and maintain security policies and configurations that ensure the stability, integrity, and compliance of Sigma’s infrastructure. You will strengthen change, configuration, and contingency management processes, and you will support the selection and procurement of new equipment to meet business demands. You will maintain and enhance RDS and RDS Gateway services, perform essential maintenance and patching outside normal hours when required, and take part in the out‑of‑hours support rota.

You will implement performance and capacity monitoring, provide aggregated reporting, and contribute to future capacity and capital planning. You will ensure business‑critical systems are available, secure, well performing, and documented. You will configure and support Windows servers, Scale Computing platforms, occasional Linux systems, and Cisco networking equipment. You will keep Service Desk and Change logs updated and carry out patching, upgrades, and installations.

You will maintain and improve cloud and local backup systems, support the Microsoft 365 suite—including Exchange, Teams, Conditional Access, and Intune—and manage Scale Computing clusters with site‑to‑site replication. You will create and test disaster recovery documentation and conduct periodic visits to Sigma’s Cape Town sites for infrastructure installation and maintenance.

You lead by example, delivering reliable infrastructure solutions, strengthening cybersecurity, and optimizing system performance to support business continuity and growth. You take pride in proactive monitoring, disciplined change management, and strong collaboration across teams.

Requirements:

• You have a Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Infrastructure role (Essential)
• You have a Matric (or equivalent)
• You have a Degree in Information Technology or a related discipline (Desirable)
• You are Microsoft/Azure certified or have equivalent commercial experience (Essential)
• You have experience with Windows Server (recent versions), Windows 11, IIS, Scale Computing environments, and Hyper‑V.
• You have experience working with Windows RDS and understand Windows security best practices.
• You have strong IP networking skills, preferably in a Cisco environment.
• You have experience with Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online/Exchange Server, Teams configuration and administration, Intune, AD Connector, and Windows‑based VDI solutions.
• You have a solid background in systems and network administration.
• You have experience working with Information Security teams to meet security certification requirements.
• You have extensive experience with business systems and related technologies.
• You are familiar with designing and deploying Exchange and O365 solutions.
• You have experience installing enterprise‑class equipment in a data centre.
