Senior Accountant

As a Senior Accountant will work in collaboration with the Finance Manager, manage the finance team and obtain financial data to compile financial reports based on the financial performance of SIGMA. Essentially, The Head of Finance will plan, direct, or coordinate accounting, investing, banking, insurance, securities, and other financial activities within the company, in which the Senior Accountant will play a supporting in this.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like:

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Understand business ethics and value.
  • Proficiency in financial accounting and reporting, including external statutory reporting and audit.
  • Basic knowledge of South African tax and accounting practices.
  • Sound knowledge of implementation and monitoring of financial controls.
  • Sound knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Working knowledge of B-BBEE
  • Knowledge of the Sage Evolution accounting system.
  • Ability to understand and adapt to new technological developments
  • Adhere to Company business ethics and values.
  • Adhere to Company policies, departmental procedures, and legislative requirements.
  • Adhere to Company structure and reporting lines.

Requirements:

 

  • Minimum: 1 - 2 years’ experience in a similar financial reporting role
  • Finance Degree or NQF 7 equivalent
  • SAICA/SAIPA articles (+- 2 years post-articles experience advantageous)
  • Clear credit and criminal record
  • S.A Citizen or valid work permit for S.A

 

 Strategy:

  • Compile, implement and enforce departmental procedures in support of the business strategy.
  • Evaluate and optimise departmental systems and procedures in support of the business plan/strategy.
  • Ensure that the organisational structures and processes contribute to the achievement of the Company’s goals and objectives.
  • Oversee effective organisational structures, sufficient resources, and effective business processes for each section to achieve its objective.
  • Assist with the formulation, communication, and implementation of the Finance policies.
  • Participate in corporate Finance strategic initiatives.
  • Support audit processes.
  • Oversee and ensure effective management of relationships with all stakeholders.

 

Operational:

  • Reviewing and posting of general ledger entries
  • Tracking and analysing monthly cashflow to ensure business needs and budgets are met
  • Analysis of income and expenditure to budget figures, providing explanations and business solutions to help mitigate risk
  • Ensure income statement and balance sheet transactions are correctly accounted for and that all reconciliations are completed and signed off monthly
  • Assist in the provision of a full suite of financial services to the business units and ensure an adequate management process is in place to execute this.
  • Manage all payments to SARS on company taxes, to ensure compliance from an accurate and timely point of view.
  • Review payments.
  • Manage and analyse ad-hoc financial data collections.
  • Analyse annual budget process, associate financial reports and statements and evaluate financial results for all divisions.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Finance on various financial issues and unresolved queries.
  • Ensure accurate and transparent accounting for SIGMA.

 

Reporting:

  • Gather all data for monthly management reports and review various internal and external reports published to different departments. 
  • Analyse actual reporting on a monthly basis.
  • Provide financial reports and interpret financial information to the Head of Finance while recommending further courses of action.

 

HR Management:

  • Provide input into the development and training of direct reports.
  • Initiate disciplinary action for departmental staff members who are non-compliant to company objectives/ policies and procedures.
  • Ensure sound and productive employee relations, good morale, and productive work culture.

 

General:

  • Develop financial reporting and internal control templates for all staff that fall in line with company policy.
  • Assist the Head of Finance with ad hoc projects.
  • To perform all such duties and exercise all such powers in relation to the business of the Company as may from time to time be vested in or assigned to, despite the fact that such duties and powers may not normally be performed by you.
  • Develop own competencies required for daily functioning.
  • Provide input into own Personal Development Plan (own and subordinates).
  • Partake in training as and when required.
  • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to your job.
  • Assist in ensuring effective staff administration, adhering to legal requirements
